The Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), Pisces Foundation, and ClimateWorks Foundation are pleased to be hosting Super Pollutant Day: Fast Action on Short-Lived Climate Pollutants. Held at the SFMOMA, Super Pollutant Day will feature several high-profile panels on super pollutant mitigation, the CCAC’s annual Climate and Clean Air Awards ceremony recognizing champions in reducing super pollutants, and a lively cocktail reception with the opportunity to view part of SFMOMA’s art collection.
Controlling short-lived climate pollutants along with carbon dioxide is essential to keep global temperature under critical thresholds needed to maintain secure, healthy communities. In addition to the impact on climate change, addressing these pollutants offers significant benefits to public health, air quality, and sustainable development. According to the CCAC, quickly-implemented measures to reduce short-lived climate pollutants could prevent an estimated 2.4 million premature deaths from outdoor air pollution annually by 2030, and as much as 52 million tons of crop loss per year. The more quickly we reduce all the pollutants driving climate change — carbon dioxide and climate “super pollutants” like black carbon, methane, and hydrofluorocarbons —the more likely it is we’ll have the safe, stable climate our communities need to stay healthy and vibrant places. This event will bring together leaders from civil society, philanthropy, business, and government to step up to the challenge presented by super pollutants and to celebrate the progress taking place in this arena.
