The Climate & Clear Air Coalition (CCAC) is working with India on practical steps to reduce short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) and air pollution through national planning support, and by taking action in the agriculture, and brick production sectors.
This webinar will focus on updating partners on on-going and planned SLCP mitigation projects in India supported by the CCAC in collaboration with key partners, to explore opportunities to strengthen collaboration in 2022-2023, and to facilitate peer to peer learning among countries in South Asia.
As set out in our 2030 Strategy, the CCAC’s mission is to put the world on a pathway that rapidly reduces warming in the near-term and maximizes development, health, environmental and food security benefits. We will achieve this by catalysing fast action to reduce SLCPs. Our mission contributes to global efforts to decarbonize the economy, limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, reduce air pollution, and achieve the related Sustainable Development Goals.
India joined the CCAC in 2019 underlining its commitment to combat air pollution and for a safe climate with a solutions-oriented approach. India’s collaboration with the CCAC is geared towards working on best practices and experiences for the effective implementation of India’s National Clean Air Program (NCAP).
Launched in 2019, NCAP is a long-term, time-bound, comprehensive strategy to tackle the air pollution problem across the country in a comprehensive manner with targets to achieve 20% to 30% reduction in particulate matter concentrations by 2024 keeping 2017 as the base year for the comparison of levels.
The CCAC projects in India aim to support government policymaking and inform national actions at all levels, to inform the CCAC Partners on developing meaningful activities to support action, replicate, and build capacity in the country, region and other developing countries related to air pollution prevention and climate change mitigation by tackling SLCPs.
