Intergovernmental organisations (IGOs) with mandates relevant to the Coalition should consider joining the Coalition as Partners provided that they have the ability to fully engage in the Coalition’s work.
  

Becoming a partner

Intergovernmental organisations (IGOs) with mandates relevant to the Coalition interested in becoming a Partner in the Coalition should write a formal letter to the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, with a copy to the Head of the Secretariat, at the addresses listed below.

In addition to any other information the applicant wishes to provide, the letter should:

• (a)    state the organisation endorses the Framework for the Coalition 
• (b)    state the organisation endorses meaningful action to reduce short-lived climate pollutants
• (c)    identify particular areas of interest related to short-lived climate pollutants and any specific actions taken or planned to address near term climate change
• (d)    identify a primary point of contact, with name, title and email address for communication

All non-state entities requesting to join should also address the following considerations in their letter:

• (e)    Demonstrate interest in working to reduce emissions of SLCPs
• (f)    Demonstrate the willingness and capacity to contribute to the work of the Coalition and support its objectives and initiatives
• (g)    Show that the organisation's work has international character (organisation does not work in one country exclusively)
• (i)     Provide information on accreditation to a UN organization or body (e.g. ECOSOC, UNFCCC, UN Regional Commission or UNEP) or membership in the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, or participation in the UN Global Compact?

Approval process

On receipt of an IGO’s request to join the Coalition, the Secretariat will review the letter to ensure it meets the criteria in (a) to (i) above. Complete requests will then be considered at the next schedule Steering Committee meeting. If the Steering Committee recommends to the Working Group that the applicant should become a Non-State Partner in the Coalition, the request to join will be then circulated to all current Coalition partners for a non-objection period of 14 days. 

If no objections are made, the Secretariat of the Coalition will make a formal written response welcoming the organisation, and the date of this letter will be the date of entry into the Coalition. The total processing time for these applications is on average two to three months.
