Gabon - Build capacity and make the case for enhanced SLCP actions

Libreville, Gabon
Future
started:
2022

This project will support Gabon’s Ministry of Water, Forests, Oceans, and Environment responsible for Climate and Land Use Plans in assessing and prioritising actions to reduce short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs).

Objectives

The project aims to achieve the following by its completion:

  • Gabon’s government has increased capacity to assess and model their SLCP emissions, to prioritize and implement SLCP mitigation measures, and to track progress.
  • Gabon’s government includes SLCP mitigation measures in its revised NDC.
  • Gabon’s government adopts the MRV framework.

What we're doing

The main project deliverables are:

  • An integrated SLCP emission inventory and elaborate recommendations for key SLCP mitigation measures to be integrated into Gabon’s revised Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and NDC implementation plan.
  • A monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) framework on methane for the agriculture and waste sectors. This project will involve collecting data to develop and improve SLCP emission estimates and applying improved emission factors for key sources sectors.
  • A mitigation assessment and recommendations for inclusion of SLCPs in updated NDC and the NDC implementation plan based on these improved emissions estimates.
