Nearly $60 million pledged for methane mitigation

The U.S. and the European Union have announced the launch of the Global Methane Pledge Energy Pathway to catalyze methane emissions reductions in the oil and gas sector. Countries and organizations announced $59 million in dedicated funding and in-kind assistance in support of the Pathway at the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate.

As a core implementer of the Global Methane Pledge, the CCAC will support the goals of the Pathway through its Hub on Fossil Energy to reduce methane and other short-lived climate pollutant mitigation in this sector.

A stronger role for gender in climate and clean air action

Women are increasingly seen as more vulnerable than men to the impacts of climate change and air pollution, representing the majority of the world's poor and being proportionally more dependent on threatened natural resources.  

In turn, the CCAC has launched its first-ever Gender Strategy, setting out key actions to include gender perspectives in all aspects of the CCAC’s work to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women.

Central American countries commit to regional cooperation on climate change and air pollution

Countries of the Integration System for Central America and Dominican Republic (SICA) have formally endorsed a regional strategy to address air quality and climate mitigation with implementation support from the CCAC.

Taking place July 6-7, this meeting will support countries of the Latin America and the Caribbean region in identifying collaboration opportunities for the fulfillment of the Global Methane Pledge.

On July 14, this event will present the findings of a new study on the Impacts of HFC Consumption Trends in Article 5 Countries and discuss with MLF implementing agencies how to achieve action to comply with the Kigali control schedule.

Event: BreatheLife Workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean: Using AirQ+ to Estimate Public Health Benefits of Advancing Air Quality Objectives in LAC Cities

Taking place July 22nd, this workshop will demonstrate the ability of the WHO’s AirQ+ tool to estimate the health benefits of air pollution reduction from main cities in Latin America and the Caribbean.
