Smart Freight Leadership 2015 (pre-session to ITF on 27-29 May)

Business Leadership on Smart Freight

Multinational companies transport US$18 trillion worth of merchandise to consumers around the globe every year— contributing to the significant environmental footprint of the transport and logistics sector, which is responsible for 6 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions annually. More business leaders today recognize that improving freight efficiency leads to reduced emissions, demonstrates climate leadership, and delivers business value.

A Global Forum for Smart Freight Leaders

Smart Freight Leadership 2015 brought together senior level representatives from business, government, international organizations, and civil society. The one-day event included keynote addresses, panel discussions, and interactive plenary sessions featuring leading companies, policymakers, and experts, who addressed what it means to be a smart freight leader, including how to:

• Translate climate risk, build the business case, and set ambitious emission-reduction targets for a company’s global logistics supply chain.

• Collaborate with other leaders to mobilize industry-wide action for measurement, reporting, and emissions reductions, including through green freight programs.

• Develop strategies to overcome market and policy barriers and accelerate the uptake of solutions covering fuel, vehicles, freight movement, and modal shift.
