The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) will host a panel discussion with industry and government leaders on soot-free and zero emission buses and trucks. As a result of recently adopted regulations in China, Mexico and India, along with leadership of the US and Europe, 65% of new heavy-duty vehicles will be soot free in 2021. This panel will how to discuss how to extend industry efforts and government progress to achieve a global goal of soot-free engines in all new buses and trucks sold by 2025, along with accelerated progress on zero emission trucks and buses.

It is now clear that CO2 measures alone are not sufficient to achieve the Paris Agreement climate goals. Making all new diesels soot-free by 2025 enables a 75% reduction in black carbon emissions by 2030, reductions needed along with methane and HFC controls to avoid half a degree of warming by 2050. Zero-emission technologies can offer even larger climate benefits through reductions in CO2, in addition to the air quality benefits offered by all soot-free vehicles.
