The purpose of the guide is to promote and motivate the Guatemalan municipalities to implement composting initiatives in their communities and is directed, in particular, to municipal personnel responsible for waste and solid waste management.
The guide is divided into three main sections. The first addresses the integral management of solid waste and waste, its importance, and the applicable legal framework. The second sets out the four steps to follow to implement municipal composting initiatives.
Finally, the third section presents the experience of the Municipality of Guatemala in the implementation of a composting project.
Support for the development of the Municipal Composting Guide was provided by CCAC within the framework of the work plan of the NDC Partnership's Climate Action Improvement Package (CAEP) activities in Guatemala to update its determined national contribution.
The guide was developed by Fundación Centro de Gestión Tecnológica e Informática Industrial (CEGESTI), an organization specializing in issues of sustainable development and comprehensive solid waste management and partner of CCAC.
