Nepal – Develop a National SLCP Plan and National Methane Roadmap [NP-23-002]

This project responds to a request made by the Ministry of Forests and Environment to build capacity across relevant ministries to assess and reduce short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP) emissions.

What we're doing 

The project is expected to develop a National SLCP Plan and a National Methane Roadmap that will inform Nepal’s 2025 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) update. This will be accompanied by workshops and trainings on mitigation SLCPs across relevant sectors. Nepal is initiating necessary preparatory work for their NDC update in 2023 and 2024. This work will also inform existing policies and plans including the NDC Implementation Plan, and NDC National Action Plan which will be implemented at the federal, provincial, and local level.

This project is expected to achieve at a minimum:

• The Government of Nepal endorses the National SLCP Plan by the project end or shortly after.
• The Government of Nepal endorses the National Methane Roadmap by the end of the project of soon after.
• The Government of Nepal integrates SLCP measures or targets, including methane reduction targets and/or mitigation measures, into its NDC by 2025. 
• The Government of Nepal has a demonstrated increased capacity to assess and address SLCP emissions by the end of the project.
