EU reference scenario 2016

The latest business-as-usual (or reference) projection for the EU made in 2016 shows methane emissions to decline from 547 in 2005 to to 360 Mt CO2eq in 2050, taking into account existing legislation. HFC emissions are expected to decline by more than 60% between 2015 and 2030.  The impacts of a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the EU in 2030 have been assessed as well. The suggest that the  40% reduction will save 5.7 million life years in 2030. The monetary benefits due to improved health (mortality only) are estimated at €6.6 to 15.1 €billion per year.  The costs of controlling air pollution are expected to be €2 billion lower in 2030.
