Integrating SLCPs into Pakistan’s air quality and climate change plans

Under this project, Pakistan is receiving support from the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) and its partners to identify short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP) mitigation actions that will maximize climate and clean air benefits.

The project is strengthening the capacity of national partners through training on the use of the LEAP-IBC tool to develop an analysis and assisting with an evaluation of mitigation actions at the national and provincial scale.

Objectives

This project is supporting Pakistan by:

Strengthening the capacity of national partners through training on the use of Low Emissions Analysis Platform system including the LEAP-IBC tool
Supporting national partners in the development of the Pakistan LEAP-IBC analysis
Identifying and evaluating those mitigation actions, at national and provincial scale, which are most effective at simultaneously improving air quality and mitigating climate change through the development of the LEAP-IBC analysis
Developing a set of policy recommendations based on LEAP-IBC application to integrate SLCP mitigation measures into air quality and climate change plans and strategies and sectoral plans at the national and provincial levels

What we're doing

To date, this project has:

Developed a concept note to support inclusion of SLCPs in Pakistan’s Clean Air Plan
Trained national and sub-national entities on the use of LEAP-IBC tool
Developed a national LEAP-IBC analysis, including the modeling of historical and future projections of emissions, impacts and benefits while jointly assessing greenhouse gases, SLCPs and other air pollutant emissions next to building mitigation scenarios, and understanding how emissions reductions benefit climate, health and crops

This work is being carried out by Clean Air Asia, the Stockholm Environment Institute, and Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC).
