The document provides a roadmap of steps to follow to recycle organic waste, including understanding how much organic waste is produced, the possible treatment options, the need to start from small-scale, working with the citizens, and assessing the financial needs and capabilities.
This roadmap was conceived for municipalities that are willing to adopt a sustainable municipal solid waste management system in which the organic waste receives the required attention and occupies a more relevant role, providing possible strategies and suggestions of technological routes for the recycling of this important fraction.
The Handbook is available in English and Portuguese. These can be downloaded using the links above. The first link is for the English edition and the second one is for the one in Portuguese.
