On 22 November 2017, eight companies signed a set of Guiding Principles on Reducing Methane Emissions across the Natural Gas Value Chain.

The Guiding Principles are: To continually reduce methane emissions; advance strong performance across gas value chains; improve accuracy of methane emissions data; advocate sound policies and regulations on methane emissions; and increase transparency. The Preamble notes that the Guiding Principles are “complementary to and mutually reinforcing of other initiatives, including the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition’s Oil & Gas Methane Partnership.”
