This event will address hyper-climate gas Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6) in Multilateral Environmental Agreements including the Montreal Protocol: Monitoring, Mitigation, and Alternatives for a Sustainable Grid.

About the Accra-Helsinki Group for Sustainable Cooling

The Accra-Helsinki Group for Sustainable Cooling was inaugurated in 2024. Like its predecessors in the history of the Montreal Protocol—the Stockholm and Toronto Groups—the Accra-Helsinki Group is an organization that serves as an informal, Montreal Protocol community-based platform for discussions among like-minded individuals and groups concerned about current and future topics relevant to the community’s work to strengthen the Montreal Protocol and prevent ozone depletion and climate tipping points. Issues for Group discussion may include:

• Stopping “environmental dumping” to help transform Article 5 Party markets away from inefficient cooling technologies that rely on “obsolete” Montreal Protocol controlled substances;
• Governance approaches and the history of the Montreal Protocol with respect to nitrous oxide (N2O), including input from authors of the recent Nitrous Oxide Assessment;
• Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) regulatory issues and developments; and
• Other topics at the co-chairs’ discretion, after receiving input from Montreal Protocol community members.
