Climate Finance for Fast Action on Methane Reduction and Just Transition in the Waste Sector

Efforts to increase climate finance and reduce methane emissions in the waste sector must be aligned with environmental justice principles. This event will present findings from a report that the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) commissioned to the Climate Policy Initiative (CPI). This report will share an assessment of financial flows, viability, and opportunities of finance for justice-centered organic waste management, aiming at delivering fast climate action on methane in the waste sector. There will be two case studies from Brazil and Indonesia to show best practices, challenges, and opportunities to deliver equitable finance in the waste sector. This event will inform and encourage decision-makers at COP29 to deliver more resources fast and effectively to abate methane for a just transition in the waste sector.
