Consideration of air pollution reduction and health benefits to increase climate ambition 8 November, 2021 17:30 - 19:00 (UTC) Morroco Pavilion, Blue Zone, COP26 Glasgow Share SHARE Facebook share Twitter LinkedIn Copy URL Email Breadcrumb Home Events & Meetings Consideration of Air Pollution Reduction and Health Benefits To Increase Climate Ambition For nearly a decade, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) has been working through its partners to highlight the enormous opportunity to simultaneously mitigate climate change and improve the lives of citizens by reducing air pollution and its adverse health effects. However, very few countries had recognized or acted on this opportunity in their official climate change commitments when the Paris Agreement was signed in 2015. By 2021, this has changed, and a diverse number of CCAC partner countries have incorporated short-lived climate pollutants ('SLCPs'), air pollution and health into their updated NDCs, ensuring that the implementation of these commitments produces multiple benefits globally and within their countries. The proposed event will focus on how CCAC partner countries have strengthened their climate change mitigation ambition by taking into account SLCPs, air pollution and health in their updated NDCs and other relevant plans and strategies. Experiences and opportunities will be shared by partners from different regions who have received support from the CCAC to develop integrated climate and air quality assessments and plans and to inform their climate commitments.
