The New Cool: Alternative Cooling Technologies

As the world phases down HFCs under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, the need for innovative cooling solutions is urgent. Alternative Cooling Technologies (ACTs) represent a new frontier—solutions that move beyond conventional vapor-compression systems to deliver sustainable, energy-efficient cooling while advancing climate, energy, and public health goals. Yet for ACTs to scale, they need broader visibility, investment, and policy support. The Montreal Protocol and UNFCCC communities can play a pivotal role by validating new technologies, enabling investment in ACT developers, and integrating ACTs into policy frameworks such as Kigali Implementation Plans, Nationally Determined Contributions, and the Global Cooling Pledge.

This two-part webinar series organized by the Carbon Containment Lab, Rocky Mountain Institute, and Climate and Clean Air Coalition will bring together innovators, analysts, and technical experts to demystify ACTs, showcase breakthrough technologies, and explore the market and policy levers needed for global deployment.

Participants will hear from leading ACT innovators—Exergyn, Pascal, Magnotherm, Anzen Climate Wall—and gain insights from CC Lab and RMI on how these technologies can successfully scale from the lab to market. The session will wrap up with an interactive audience Q&A.
