The Federal Ministry of Environment of Nigeria and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition’s Efficient Cooling Initiative are hosting a ministerial roundtable on the margins of the 31st Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol.

This event brings together a key group of ministers and leaders from around the world for an exclusive an informal conversation on what ministers can do to enhance ambition and accelerate progress on efficient cooling.

The adoption of the Kigali Amendment was a historic achievement for the Montreal Protocol family and is expected to contribute up to 0.4°C of avoided warming by the end of the century by phasing-down HFCs. By simultaneously improving the energy efficiency of air conditioning by more than 50% by 2030, this climate benefit could be doubled while also reducing local air pollution from power generation.

Countries have recognized the benefits of pairing efficient cooling with an HFC phasedown and are already taking advantage of this opportunity through activities like: developing national cooling plans, green public procurement, and establishing minimum energy performance standards.
