Sub-regional meeting for Southern Africa

In a CCAC-supported sub-regional meeting for Southern Africa countries will discuss a sub-regional approach and possible agreement for low sulfur fuels (50 ppm or below), and the adoption of commensurate vehicle emission standards. In addition to representatives from the host country - South Africa, participating countries include Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Namibia. The Southern African Development Community, the African Refiners Association, the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa and the South African Petroleum Industry Association are also expected to support this process. The event is jointly organized by UNEP and the Air Pollution Information Network for Africa with support from the International Council on Clean Transportation.
