[Virtual] Africa Clean Air Program (ACAP) Road Map Design and Development

-
(Accra)
Virtual

The African Clean Air Programme (ACAP) is a key platform for regional cooperation addressing air pollution, climate change, and sustainable development in Africa. Led by the African Union Commission (AUC) in collaboration with UNEP-ROA, the Stockholm Environment Institute, CCAC, regional experts, the private sector, and communities, ACAP is currently under development. This Concept Note outlines the framework for a virtual consultative meeting on 23 May 2025 and an in-person meeting in Accra, Ghana, in May 2025. A benchmarking report on Air Quality Management (AQM) in Africa—developed by a project team representing Africa’s five regions—will be presented to AU Member States and Regional Economic Communities (RECs) for input. The virtual meeting will assess the AQM status report, review regional cooperation frameworks, and propose recommendations for an ACAP roadmap and action plans to be considered at the Accra meeting.

Objectives

  1. Assess and update the results of the benchmarking report;
  2. Develop the key components of an ACAP roadmap that align with existing initiatives;
  3. Update on CCAC led champion country initiatives and good practice.
