Webinar: Partnering with oil & gas companies

This webinar will focus on partnering with oil & gas companies. Under2 member jurisdictions and experts will share their experiences on how can partnerships and collaborations with oil & gas companies is key towards reducing methane emissions from oil & gas operations. Towards this, we find value in inviting companies to share their experiences from business perspective.

Due to their critical role in achieving near term greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals, as well as the potential for significant public health benefits associated with reduced air pollution, Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) have been identified by Under2 Coalition governments as a priority area for policy cooperation, and are mentioned explicitly in the Under2 MOU.

To begin facilitating this cooperation, The Climate Group is convening a group of state and regional governments in 2019 with the purpose of sharing specific actions they can take to reduce methane emissions from oil and natural gas operations. This includes actions related to: methane leak detection and disclosure, methane recovery and use, identifying and addressing methane leaks in pipelines, limiting natural gas flaring, partnering with companies, and utilizing new technologies.

Each distinct action is the subject of a monthly online meeting, where participating governments share experiences and lessons learned and discuss cost-reduction strategies. Good practice examples are described in a series of case studies featured on the Under2 Policy Action Map and will be collected together in a Global Action Guide, published at the end of the project.  As part of the project, participants are also connected with other global initiatives to reduce methane emissions, such as the Climate & Clean Air Coalition.

The third webinar in this series of online meeting is going to be held on Wednesday, July 10 at 4 pm London time/11 am Eastern time.
