According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), buildings and buildings construction sectors contribute 36% of global final energy consumption and nearly 40% of total direct and indirect CO2 emissions. Improving building efficiency and creating a sustainable built environment not only reduces CO2 emissions, but also mitigates emissions of short-lived climate pollutants including black carbon, methane, tropospheric ozone and HFCs.

New York City is taking bold action through its OneNYC 2050 Plan to mitigate emissions from its staggering number of nearly 1 million buildings – with a focus on retrofitting existing buildings to make them more energy efficient and powering them with renewable energy.
