Project Update: Open burning workshop in Nigeria by Climate and Clean Air Coalition Secretariat (CCAC) - 22 April, 2025 Share SHARE Facebook share Twitter LinkedIn Copy URL Email Print Breadcrumb Home News and Announcements Project Update: Open Burning Workshop In Nigeria This week, the Royal Academy of Engineering hosted a consultative workshop in Nairobi on the EngineeringX-led roadmap to end the open burning of waste in Africa by 2040, with partners Practical Action, UN-Habitat and Climate & Clean Air Coalition.“To end the open burning of waste we need massive small actions” -Desta Mebratu The workshop included 40 experts from twelve African countries working for local, regional, and national governments, development banks, NGOs, universities, United Nations bodies, and more, to help set milestones and actions for the next fifteen years.When people don’t have access to sufficient waste management systems, they often burn their waste, unaware of the severe effects it can have on health.
