Compassion In World Farming

CIWF is a farmer-founded and globally operating non-governmental organization pursuing a healthier, more sustainable, and higher welfare existence for animals, people, and the planet.

Among various programs of work, CIWF’s International Affairs Team seeks to advance multilateral policies which amplify and accelerate action on agrifood systems-related emissions. More specifically, CIWF has championed sustainable nitrogen management and methane mitigation measures. Our evidence-based solutions have received uptake in policy instruments across the UN system. We are eager to continue this important work.

Compassion in World Farming was founded in 1967 in England by Peter Roberts, a British farmer who became horrified by the development of intensive factory farming. Over 50 years ago he decided to make a difference and take a stand against this farming system.  Compassion in World Farming is dedicated to reforming a broken food and farming system and introducing a more humane, fair, and sustainable one.
