Guidelines for management of fugitive methane and greenhouse gases emissions in the upstream oil and gas operations in Nigeria

Description

Establishes the actions and mechanisms that operators shall adopt for the prevention and control of methane (and other greenhouse gas) emissions from upstream oil and gas operations. The guidelines are applicable to new and existing facilities within the upstream Nigerian oil and gas industry.

Measures

Requirements for companies include:

1. Implement leak detection and repair measures on their oil and gas infrastructure

2. Install flares with high destruction efficiency in order to reduce the impact of leaked or vented methane

3. Establish controls on devices that are designed to vent or require their replacement with zero emissions equipment
