The Maldives National Action Plan to Reduce Air Pollutants NAPRAP. has identified that its key SLCP source sectors include the transport and waste sectors. Accurate data on emissions amounts and sources is central to these appropriate planning and attracting climate mitigation funding . This project aims to provide Maldives authorities with better information and methodologies for the calculation of SLCP and GHG emissions from the waste sector and as a result, improved conditions for NDC's revision and reporting of their NDC's. Objectives This project aims to:Equip the government of Maldives with methodologies and standards to collect data from the waste sector that will lead to better GHG inventory from the waste sector. Assist the government of Maldives to identify local GHG emissions factors from the waste sector that would improve the GHG emissions for future reporting under the UNFCCC on Maldives’ NDC implementation. Improve data available to the government of Maldives to understand the waste sector SLCP emissions and to implement the recommended mitigation measures. ActivitiesThis project will deliver at a minimum: Development of data collection methodologies and standards. Development of emission factors in the local context regarding waste GHG emissions in the Maldives. SLCP emission analysis for the waste sector, with a specific interest in island communities’ waste management to inform tailored mitigation measures, including assessment of methane emissions from waste treatment and disposal facilities in the Maldives.
