Trans-boundary air pollution in Northeast Asia has long been recognized as a serious issue. Actions are urgently needed to deal with acid rain-related environmental impacts and the pollution that impacts other countries in the Northeast Asia sub-region under certain climate conditions. Coal-fired power plants are a major pollutant source of trans-boundary air pollution in Northeast Asia. All countries in the sub-region have coal-fired power plants that produce electric power and generate trans-boundary air pollutants.
