Regional Workshop on Short-Lived Climate Pollutants

This is the report of the Regional Expert Workshop on Air Quality and Short-lived Climate Pollutants that took place from 21 to 23 March 2018. It brought together participants from 12 countries from across the region with the goal of strengthening cooperation and promoting the implementation of national policies and programs to address SLCPs.    The workshop provided a platform for the countries, as well as representatives from governmental institutions, academia and non-governmental organisations to discuss key air quality and climate change issues, including the importance of addressing black carbon emissions from the transport and residential energy sectors that negatively impact health, air quality and the climate.  The agenda addressed the following topics: -Current regional status of SLCPs: emissions, impacts, projections, policies and potential mitigation measures. -Regional efforts on inventories -Air Quality Monitoring -National strategies for air quality -Key sectorial policies to tackle SLCPs: Transport and Household - SLCPs within the attainment of the Agenda 2030  Discussions on intergovernmental cooperation to promote the sound implementation of policies and national programmes to improve air quality, health and the short-term climate protection in the Latin American and the Caribbean Region.  Increased regional collaboration on the improvement of integrated inventories of greenhouse gases and air pollutants, as well as on atmospheric air quality monitoring were outlined as cross-cutting priorities for the region.
