2026 Calls for proposals - Super Pollutant Country Action Accelerator

At COP30, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) launched the Super Pollutant Country Action Accelerator, a new three-year programme to help governments in ODA-eligible countries drive deep and sustained reductions in super pollutant emissions. Super pollutants including methane, black carbon, and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are responsible for nearly half of current global warming and cause over 8 million annual premature deaths. They also harm crops and economies, and super pollutant reduction is one of the most effective ways to slow global warming and bring immediate health, food and economic wins.

The Accelerator fills the gap between urgency and action, enabling countries to embed dedicated coordination teams within participating governments and supports them through four to five tailored technical assistance projects, coordinating national delivery across at least three super pollutant sectors. Building on lessons from the success of the Montreal Protocol, the programme applies its proven implementation model to accelerate action on super pollutants.

The Accelerator aims to engage up to 30 countries by 2030 and to mobilise an estimated USD 150 million in grant funding and complementary finance from development partners.

The first cohort of seven countries: Brazil, Cambodia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Nigeria, and South Africa, was announced at COP30 by Marina Silva, Brazil's Minister of the Environment and Climate, and the Rt. Hon. Ed Miliband, UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. These countries were selected for their strong political commitment, readiness for policy and regulatory action, and regional leadership. They will collectively receive an initial support package of $25 million to advance their efforts.
