Tackling them is one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to slow climate change, while delivering immediate benefits for public health, food security, and clean air.Political momentum is growing. Yet implementation remains fragmented. National governments make commitments, but states, provinces, and cities operate the systems - transport, waste, buildings, cooling - where emissions can be tackled. These levels of government rarely work together in a coordinated way, and as a result, ambition too often outpaces action on the ground. The Subnational Methane Action Coalition (SMAC) and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) are working together with city networks such as the Lowering Organic Waste Methane initiative (LOW-M) to build a connected approach to super pollutant action, from national commitments through to local delivery. This roundtable brings together governments, funders, and partners to:Recenter attention to multilevel action: marking the formal welcome of new members into the Subnational Methane Action Coalition, and recognising the expanding network of national and subnational governments, cities, and partners working together on super pollutants.Spotlight subnational action on the ground: hearing directly from SMAC and LOW-M member governments on the practical steps they are taking to reduce super pollutant emissions, and the real-world benefits this delivers for their communities.Showcase the value of subnational methane action: demonstrating how SMAC and LOW-M support governments to move from commitment to implementation, and making the case for increased investment in subnational climate action, particularly under a multi-level strategy.
