Fourth session of the UN Environment Assembly

-
Nairobi

The High-Level Segment of the fourth session of the UN Environment Assembly will focus on innovative solutions for environmental challenges and Sustainable Consumption and Production guided by the Executive Director’s Report on the theme. This two-day session will bring together various Heads of State, Ministers and Heads of Delegations to provide national statements addressing best practices, policies, financing, technologies, partnerships and multistakeholder processes in support of the overarching theme. As already recognized in the second and third sessions of the UN Environment Assembly, there is a need for transformative change to support Agenda 2030 and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. There is a need for strong commitment and collaborative effort by global political leaders to solve key environmental issues and accelerate sustainable development.

The High-Level Segment enables participating environment ministers to send a powerful message to the world on environmental issues and will, therefore, involve the consideration and adoption of the Ministerial Outcome Document in the form of a political declaration by the Ministers of Environment adopted by consensus, that promotes action and partnerships. During the high-level segment, resolutions addressing specific issues for action will also be adopted by Member States.

The High-Level Segment will also feature ‘Leadership Dialogues’; high-level interactive, moderated sessions designed to facilitate high-level engagement of participating Ministers to discuss in-depth solutions, best practices and challenges relating to the overarching theme of the Assembly and provide strategic direction and accelerated action to protect our environment.
