HFC Lifecycle Management Workshop under Q-CHAMP

Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are short-lived climate pollutants which have high global warming potential. In addition to the commitment to the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, many countries have been engaged in activities which may contribute to achieving HFCs emissions reduction, for example, through implementing regulation of recovery, recycle and destruction of refrigerants; setting up rebate systems for the recovered refrigerants; and designing national cooling strategy.

There is a growing need for these kinds of efforts as more stringent mitigation actions are required to meet 1.5℃ goal and to achieve net-zero target set by each country. The HFCs Lifecycle Management workshop will introduce good practices of Quad countries (Japan, Australia, India, and the U.S.) to the Indo-Pacific countries for the sake of their policy reference.

This workshop will be held under the "Quad Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Package (Q-CHAMP)” which was launched by Quad Joint Leaders’ Statement in Tokyo in May 2022.
