Short-Lived Climate Pollutants National Action Planning Workshop 13 November, 2023 - 14 November, 2023 08:00 - 17:00 (Manila) Auditorium 2 Manila Share SHARE Facebook share Twitter LinkedIn Copy URL Email Image [media_placeholder] Breadcrumb Home Events & Meetings Short-Lived Climate Pollutants National Action Planning Workshop Background The Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of the Philippines, submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) in 2021, outlined objectives of 75% reduced emissions, of which 2.71% is unconditional, and 72.29% is conditional, from sectors such as the agricultural sector, energy, transport, and forestry from 2020 to 2023. The NDC requires these measures on the basis of sustained capacity building for emissions reduction, coordinated programs, and better accessibility to financing. As part of this, the country is committed to reducing Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) in line with its NDCs and membership to the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC). To achieve this, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Climate Change Service (DENR-CCS) initiated a national action planning process geared towards improving the capacity of the country to reduce SLCPs, creating national and regional awareness among stakeholders, and obtaining financial support for SLCP mitigation and NDC implementation programs. This will be carried out by the project entitled “Finalization of the Philippine National Plan on SLCPs”, which is funded by the CCAC and developed based on the request of DENR-CCS to the coalition. The SLCP National Action Planning Part 1 Workshop brings together the members of the Philippine Nationally Determined Contribution – Technical Working Group to introduce the Low Emission Analysis Platform (LEAP) tool. The tool will be used to calculate historical trends in air pollutants, traditional greenhouse gas (GHG), and SLCP emissions and evaluate future air pollution and climate change mitigation strategies. The results of the LEAP application will enable the formulation of scenario-based emission reduction measures that consider both air pollution and climate change impacts in the Philippine National Plan on SLCPs. Objectives The workshop is designed for the participants to: Understand the basic functions of the LEAP tool and its application in the development of the Philippine National Plan on SLCPs Agree on the process for building and the general structure of LEAP that will be developed for the Philippine National Plan on SLCPs Identify data holders and sources for the data that will be used in LEAP.
