Sky’s the limit: Investing in Clean Air for our Health and Climate through Integrated Action

-In person event only-

Air pollution is detrimental to our health. It’s responsible for nearly 8 million premature deaths according to the World Health Organization, and millions more living with chronic respiratory illness.   According to the World Bank, nearly 8.1 trillion dollars are lost annually due to healthcare expenditures, declines in productivity, and other economic burdens directly attributable to air pollution.

Despite these negative impacts, investments to curb air pollution are falling dismally short. The financing gap is clear: fewer than 1% of global development funding is currently going towards clean air.

For every dollar invested in clean air initiatives, we stand to receive up to $30 in economic benefits – a substantial payoff with far-reaching implications for societal well-being and financial stability.

Private sector and national governments have a critical role to play in the mitigation of air pollutant emissions and their multiple impacts.

Focus of event

What are the steps that national and private sector actors can take to plan and implement measures that promote climate mitigation, improved health and enhanced development outcomes? What are tools that enable quantified integration of these kinds of policies?

Join us on 25 September from 10:00-11:30 at this NY Climate Week Side Event to hear from the EDF, CCAC, World Economic Forum, and SEI who will be joined by private sector and national representatives to discuss and showcase successful examples of how integrating planning aligns short-term actions with long-term environmental goals, resulting in multiple co-benefits for climate, citizens, companies and countries.
