Transforming the US market to phase down potent HFCs

Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are the fastest growing source of greenhouse gas emissions and can be several thousand times more potent than carbon dioxide.  Because they are short-lived, rapidly phasing-down HFCs is one of the best opportunities to slow the pace of climate change in the near-term.  Under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, the world agreed to phase down their use and transition to climate friendly alternatives.  The U.S. has yet to ratify the Kigali Amendment, and federal rules restricting the use of HFCs have been partly vacated by the D.C. Court of Appeals.  U.S. Climate Alliance states are stepping up to fill this void and protect American companies and jobs, and are considering adopting their own regulations to transition away from HFCs.
