The CCAC at COP25

by CCAC secretariat - 27 November, 2019
The CCAC and our partners will be actively promoting SLCP action at the 25th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The just released UN Environment Programme Emissions Gap Report 2019 shows that the world is on the brink of missing the 1.5˚C target. On current unconditional pledges, the world is heading for a 3.2°C temperature rise. Every fraction of additional warming beyond 1.5°C will result in increasingly severe and expensive impacts.

At the upcoming UN Climate Conference COP25 in Madrid, CCAC partners will showcase how fast action to reduce short-lived climate pollutants alongside deep cuts in CO2 emissions can help get us back on target. The CCAC is calling for all countries to work to for significant reductions in short-lived climate pollutants by 2030 and to include action on these powerful climate forcers in enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions. Doing so will rapidly reduce the rate of warming, help stabilize the climate and bring multiple benefits to health and other development goals.

At COP25 the CCAC is hosting and participating in a number of events that showcase how our work is helping to raise ambition by integrating climate and air quality actions (for a full list follow the link below). The technologically feasible and economically viable solutions that we work on can prevent at least half a degree of warming by 2050 and prevent 52 million tons of crop losses annually and save millions of lives each year from the impacts of air pollution.
