The Board Meeting brought together the CCAC Board as the strategic, decision-making body of the Coalition, to discuss updates on Coalition activities, make recommendations on work plans and budgets as well as make decisions on the use of the Trust Fund, among other topics.We also saw important developments from our partners across the world in both projects and events advancing SLCP action.  Upcoming Events 2024 M-RAP Virtual Workshop Series The Methane Roadmap Action Programme (M-RAP) built from the decade-long experience and methodology of the CCAC's National Planning process and support development and implementation of transparent and consistent national methane roadmaps.This M-RAP NDC Enhancement webinar series provides countries with concrete and practical guidance for how to leverage the M-RAP methodology tools and resources of the CCAC to enhance their NDCs. Participants will also have the chance to learn from good practice examples provided by country representatives. The primary purpose of this workshop is to encourage cross-sectoral conversation and generate concrete initiatives that cut across conventional barriers, allowing stakeholders to achieve significant progress toward sustainable development goals and international agreements commitments, including UNECE Air Convention and the Paris Agreement. Participants will engage in interactive conversations, exchange best practices, and gain practical knowledge of integrated planning methodologies and approaches. News and updates News: World Health Organization Member States to adopt Resolution on Climate Change and HealthCCAC partners Netherlands and Peru have led the push for the adoption of a resolution at the World Health Assembly 77 to clearly state that climate change is a major threat to global public health, and set out a framework to promote health and build climate-resilient and sustainable health systems. The resolution demonstrates increasing political commitment by governments and WHO to scale up climate action as a public health priority.Read more here. News: Launch of Agroecology and Circular Economy for Ecosystem Services (ACE4ES) ProjectThe Agroecology and Circular Economy for Ecosystem Services (ACE4ES) project is pleased to announce its official launch, a momentous step towards fostering sustainable agriculture in Africa. Led by the CSIR-Crops Research Institute (CSIR-CRI), in collaboration with partners including AfricaRice, Youth Initiative for Land in Africa (YILAA), and Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), this pioneering initiative aims to combat Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) from rice and maize production through innovative agroecology and circular economy technologies. The ACE4ES project unites a diverse consortium of stakeholders, comprising researchers, policymakers, farmers, private sector partners, and civil society organizations, all dedicated to addressing climate change and advancing sustainable food systems.Read more here. News: Training Workshop on Vehicle Emission Inspection and Fuel Quality Monitoring Boosts Environmental Efforts in CambodiaFrom May 8th to May 10th, 2024, a training workshop was held at the Directorate General of Consumer Protection Competition and Fraud Repression, alongside the Himawari Hotel, marking a pivotal step in Cambodia's environmental endeavors. The workshop, part of the CCAC-supported project in Cambodia, aimed at implementing improved vehicle emission standards in the country, moving towards Euro 4/IV and laying the groundwork for Euro 6/VI standards. News: Brazil Approves National Air Quality Management System (MonitoAr)Brazil is ramping up efforts to improve air quality management, recognizing its detrimental effects on public health, the environment, and the economy.A significant stride in this direction is the recently approved National Air Quality Management System (MonitoAr), implemented and maintained by the MMA. MonitoAr provides real-time air quality information to the public and state officials, facilitating informed decision-making and immediate responses to pollution levels.Read more here. News: Air pollution climbs World Bank’s agenda, as $1 billion in financial guarantees pledged (Clean Air Fund)The World Bank’s Spring Meetings showed signs that air pollution is moving up the bank’s and the world’s agenda. The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) announced $1 billion to de-risk air quality projects and encourage more investment in clean air. Read more here. Ride For Their Lives to Mobilize Clean Air and Health AdvocacyHealth Care Without Harm is coordinating the Ride For Their Lives campaign in the Philippines together with 350 Pilipinas and the Health Alliance for Climate and Clean Air Philippines. The goal of this campaign is to mobilize the healthcare community and wider environmental groups in the Philippines to advocate for better air quality standards and enhanced air quality monitoring in the Philippines, to protect the health of current and future generations. This will be conducted on June 25th, 2024 in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Philippines Clean Air Act. Publications Publication: Powering progress: Market creation strategies for solar e-cooking in off-grid and displaced communities – UNEP, Copenhagen Climate Centre, WFP Image The clean cooking agenda is also a climate action agenda. In many countries across Asia and Africa, household cooking can account for as much as 60%-80% of national black carbon emissions.In the pursuit of sustainable development and climate resilience, off-grid solar electric cooking (e-cooking) technologies is a dual solution encompassing both climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies. With rising temperatures, rapid urbanization, and increasing incomes, the rapidly growing demand for cooling is exacerbating the situation, posing risks to a currently carbon-intensive energy system and causing more global warming.
