Message from the Secretariat As 2019 comes to a close, I want to take the opportunity to thank the wonderful partners and actors in the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) for a job well done. Together as a Coalition, we have produced momentum and change in many sectors. We continue to make headways on integrating climate and clean air policies, regulations and practices towards substantive reduction of short-lived climate pollutants.2019 was a decisive year for the CCAC. Partners extended our mandate to 2030 and endorsed a new 2030 Vision Statement, creating a foundation for more ambitious action on air pollution and climate change over the next decade.Next year we will finalise our strategy for 2030. We hope you will take a moment to complete the 2030 Strategy Survey to help us prioritise actions for achieving our climate and clean air objectives. With your support, we are certain to succeed! Some highlights from 2019: We advanced our “Action Programme to Address the 1.5˚C Challenge”, holding ministerial dialogues in the ASEAN region, Central America, around the UN Climate Action Summit in New York, during the Meeting of the Parties of the Montreal Protocol, and during the COP-25 in Madrid. These meetings have lead to further work at the country level to integrate climate and air quality priorities and deliver more ambitious commitments in nationally determined contributions (NDCs). Our global reach continued to grow, with 10 new partners, including India, Spain and the United Arab Emirates, committing to reducing short-lived climate pollutants. With support from Japan and France, we launched the Efficient Cooling Initiative, which seeks to double the climate benefits of the HFC phasedown by combining work on efficient technology and climate-friendly refrigerants. The initiative was recognized in the ‘Biarritz Pledge for Fast Action on Efficient Cooling’ at the G7 Heads of States Summit. You can find out more about the CCAC’s progress in our 2018-2019 Annual Report. A special thank you to our co-chairs from Switzerland and the Philippines, the tireless Steering Committee, our eminent and productive Science Advisory Panel, and the many lead partners and implementers of the CCAC initiatives. We, in the Secretariat, look forward to supporting you with even more exciting work in the coming year. Best wishes for a happy and peaceful holiday season.Helena Molin Valdes, Head of the Secretariat Latest news 40 years of cooperation and counting with UNECE Air Convention Ministers and high-level representatives approved an Anniversary Declaration to renew their commitment for action on cleaner air in the region, in line with the Long-Term Strategy for the Convention for 2020-2030 and beyond.
