With a narrow window for action, the path we choose to achieve this Paris Agreement target is crucial. By quickly reducing emissions that contribute to both near- and long-term climate impacts, we not only increase our chances of success, we also contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030. The Coalition has organised a series of ministerial roundtables to discuss practical ways to do this. The first discussion was held in Singapore and led by New Zealand Minister for Climate Change James Shaw. Similar discussions will follow during the Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week in Montevideo and in New York. The message emerging from these meetings is that we have achievable and tested solutions to reduce black carbon, methane and HFCs and step up ambition. With political leadership from the top levels of government, we can drive action and exploit the synergies between the Paris Agreement and the SDGs.
