Special announcements from the Working Group included the launch of a 2021 call for proposals to support national action under the CCAC Action Programme to Address the 1.5 C Challenge, a new pledge from Sweden, and US Senior Advisor and White House Liaison for Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, Rick Duke, replacing Janine Kuriger of Switzerland as Co-Chair. Keep reading Global Methane Assessment now available Urgent steps must be taken to reduce methane emissions this decade. To put the world on a path consistent with the Paris Agreement 1.5˚C target, methane emissions must be reduced by 45% by 2030 relative to projected levels. This can be achieved using solutions available today and will offer immediate, long-lasting benefits not only for the climate, but also agriculture, human and ecosystem health. → Download the report → Read the press release → See the key findings Our partners in action Chile and Canada Partner to Reduce Emissions from the Waste Management Sector In 2017, Chile and Canada partnered to reduce emissions from the waste sector and achieve Chile’s NDC. The resulting Reciclo Organicos Programme has generated significant outcomes, including methane reductions equivalent to 7.1 megatons of carbon, and counting. SLCP commitments in Germany's Climate Action Programme 2030 and Climate Change Act Recognizing the vital role of short-lived climate pollutants to climate action, CCAC partner Germany includes these pollutants in their broader climate change and clean air agenda and champions SLCP mitigation around the world. Satellite data used to monitor open burning in Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria For the past two years, CCAC partners have mapped open burning practices in Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria using satellite-derived analytics. This work was complemented in 2021 with virtual training in Nigeria on open-source satellite active fire products. New project supports enhanced climate ambition and action in Indonesia's agriculture sector A demonstration project in Indonesia is illustrating how institutional strengthening and assessment tools can support countries to set ambitious mitigation targets. This project aims to provide approaches that can be replicated throughout the South East Asia region. Announcements Call for expert reviewers The Climate and Clean Air Coalition, with Beijing University of Technology and Energy Research Institute of China, are seeking nominations for expert technical reviewers for the First Order Draft (FOD) of an Integrated Assessment for China’s Paris and Air Quality Targets report (working title). The review period will be open from 15 May-15 July. Please direct all nominees to register using the online form. 2021 Call for proposals: CCAC Action Programme The Action Programme to Address the 1.5˚C Challenge is launching a $1,000,000 call for proposals for projects that support national or regional actions to reduce SLCPs. Eligible applicants are invited to apply anytime before 31 August. Science affairs intern The CCAC is seeking an intern to support activities including analysis and synthesis of scientific research, provide inputs to science-policy briefings, and prepare summaries of the CCAC Scientific Advisory Panel meetings. GHG Inventory Consultant The UNDP Mongolia Country Office invites international candidates to send their applications for the assignment of Greenhouse Gas Inventory Consultant. Deadline to apply is 8 June. Associate, Evidence and Impact, Clean Cooking Alliance The Associate will be involved in the day-to-day work of implementing virtual workshop series activities for the Clean Cooking Alliance's E&I Standards and Research portfolio.
