The event will bring together policy makers, industry leaders, technical experts, and researchers from around the world for sessions on fast climate action, methane reduction efforts, and deep dives across sectors. See the agenda Image $5 million for methane mitigation in Africa U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry announced a new $5 million grant from the U.S. government to the African Development Bank to support efforts to abate methane emissions. The announcement, made at the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) in Senegal, includes $1.2 million in projects funded by the CCAC to help tackle methane and other short-lived climate pollutants. These actions will be critical for implementing and delivering the Global Methane Pledge. Learn more Our partners in action Image African leaders stand ready to act on methane Many African countries recognize the benefits of acting to reduce methane, and have already begun to address methane reduction through national policies and planning and by setting methane targets in their NDCs. Image CCAC projects launched in 20 partner countries to support national policy and planning $2.5 million in project funding includes the development of 13 national methane roadmaps, 13 requests for improved inventory and monitoring capabilities, and the development of 7 SLCP plans and policies. Image Denmark takes ambitious action to reduce methane from agriculture Research projects to develop feed additives for reduced methane emissions are underway, along with subsidies supporting the production of biogas and other green gasses. Image Panama and the Dominican Republic explore low emissions livestock development The project will map livestock and climate change projects from both countries and identify good practices for sustainable, competitive, and resilient production systems with low methane emissions. Image Peru links waste management and protein production through insect technology This project will develop viable and scalable technologies to extract organic waste and transform it into valuable protein in insect farms, reducing methane emissions from poorly managed landfills. Image United Arab Emirates works toward Global Methane Pledge targets The UAE shares the actions being taken in the key methane emitting sectors, waste, agriculture, and oil and gas. Announcements Apply: CCAC Calls for Proposals on Supporting National Mitigation Action DEADLINE 19 OCTOBER The CCAC is currently accepting proposals for projects to advance national action on short-lived climate pollutants in partner countries across key sectors including waste, agriculture, and fossil fuels. Apply: CCAC Calls for Proposals on Driving Transformative Action DEADLINE 26 OCTOBER The CCAC is currently accepting proposals for projects to drive transformational change in key short-lived climate pollutant sectors. Apply: We’re hiring! The CCAC is hiring National SLCP Experts in the Dominican Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Morocco, and Gabon! Experts will support national SLCP planning and implementation efforts for climate and clean air action. Apply: Open Burning Grant Scheme The Safer End of Engineered Life – Open burning grant scheme is looking to fund projects to tackle the open burning of waste that lead to a reduction of risk to human health and safety. Apply by November 8. Event: Waste Hub Technology and Information Exchange at Ecomondo 2022 A delegation of representatives from the CCAC Waste Hub partner network will be traveling to Rimini, Italy, building capacity amongst policymakers and stakeholders on policies to reduce methane and black carbon.
