Belgium

CCAC Partner since
2017

Belgium joined the CCAc to take part in the HFC, Diesel, Finance, and Agriculture initiatives. The country has committed to take ambitious action to combat short-lived climate pollutants at the regional and national level, as well as through international and development cooperation.

Over the last two decades, Belgium has taken an active position in the environmental arena, improving its air quality and implementing various climate policies. Based on the EU Environmental Implementation Review from February 2017, Belgium is among the top performers in the EU for waste management, with a recycling rate for municipal waste of 55% in 2014 (EU average 44% in 2014) and landfilling of biodegradable waste being eliminated.

The country is working to decrease emissions from its transport sector, including a recent investment in Europe’s largest ever electric-hybrid bus fleet – a purchase of 90 Volvo 7,900 buses that produce up to 90% less greenhouse gas emissions than regular diesel models.

The Walloon Government and Flemish Government of Belgium support CCAC projects in developing countries as donors to the CCAC Trust Fund. Details about each government's contributions and pledges can be found here. Visit Belgium's official climate change website to learn more about the country's actions.
