Bellona Foundation CCAC Partner since 2012 Breadcrumb Home Our Partners Bellona Foundation About The Bellona Foundation is an international environmental NGO based in Norway. Founded in 1986 as a direct action protest group, Bellona has become a recognised technology and solution-oriented organization with offices in Oslo, Brussels, Washington D.C., St. Petersburg and Murmansk. Some 60 engineers, ecologists, nuclear physicists, economists, lawyers, political scientists and journalists work at Bellona. Bellona Foundation is accredited and has observer status to the UNEP Governing Council, UNFCCC and IMO. Bellona Foundation is also one of the very few non-profit organisations that are signatories to UN Global Compact. The Bellona Foundation will be involved in various activities related to Short-Lived Climate Pollutants: 1) Bellona Foundation began working on SLCPs prior to COP-15 in Copenhagen, advocating for swift action to reduce the emissions of short-lived climate pollutants. Bellona has held several side-events focusing in SLCPs during the UNFCCC conference of the parties (COP) 15-17. 2) Bellona Foundation has supported the plea for enabling the Montreal Protocol to assume a coordinating role in phasing out emissions of HFCs. We have advocated for the discontinuation of HFC-23 destruction as a Certified Emission Reduction measure under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol. Bellona Foundation is a member of the Clean Shipping Coalition (CSC) with observer status to the International Maritime Organization. CSC has been actively involved in the discussions related to black carbon emission from maritime transport both at IMO and EU-level. Our office in St. Petersburg, Russia has since 2009 worked on Black Carbon emissions from burning of agricultural waste.
