Grenada Breadcrumb Home Our Partners Grenada The Government of Grenada joined the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) in 2025, through the leadership of its Ministry of Climate Resilience, the Environment and Renewable Energy. As a Small Island Developing State (SIDS), Grenada views climate change and air pollution as critical threats to its communities, ecosystems, and economy. By endorsing the CCAC Framework and Strategy 2030, Grenada has committed to taking meaningful action to reduce short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) such as methane, black carbon, and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). The country has identified priority areas that include organic waste management, renewable energy, sustainable transport, climate-smart agriculture and food systems, and advancing energy-efficient, climate-friendly cooling.Grenada’s partnership with the CCAC builds on a strong foundation of existing policies and initiatives. Under its National Solid Waste Management Strategy, Grenada has set ambitious goals of diverting 60% of organic waste by 2030 and achieving an 80% municipal waste diversion rate by 2035. The Recycle Organics Program, developed through broad stakeholder engagement, has already produced a national action plan for organic waste management, established pilot composting and education programs reaching schools and communities, and launched a waste characterization study at Perseverance Landfill, which serves 95% of the population. These efforts support Grenada’s target under the Global Methane Pledge to reduce methane emissions from the waste sector by 40% by 2030, while also aligning with Grenada’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).Grenada plans to leverage its CCAC partnership to strengthen national policies and regulatory frameworks for SLCP reduction, scale innovative business models and financing tools for composting, biogas, and landfill gas capture, and expand technical capacity among government agencies, entrepreneurs, and community organizations. By mobilizing investment and implementing its growing portfolio of projects, Grenada aims to cut SLCP emissions, protect public health, generate green jobs, and extend the lifespan of essential waste infrastructure. Through this partnership, Grenada reinforces its leadership as a SIDS champion for fast climate action and sustainable development.
