This project responds to the request by the Central African Republic’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development for services to enhance methane mitigation in the livestock sector.

Project reference: [CF-22-003] Central African Republic - Deliver methane emission and mitigation assessments for the livestock sector

Objectives

The project aims to achieve the following by its completion:

  • The government endorses the mitigation assessment for the livestock sector
  • The government has increased capacity in greenhouse gas emissions inventory development for the livestock sector

What we're doing

The main project deliverables are:

  • Defined data inputs, including a matrix of animal categories (farming systems per animal groups/ production systems) for the collection of data (on animal numbers and technical parameters) and computation of Tier 2 emissions
  • A report on the data gaps and propose data acquisition protocols
  • A climate change mitigation assessment for the livestock sector to identify the most effective methods to reduce methane and the co-benefits for health, and air pollution
  • Training on developing the Tier 2 greenhouse gas inventory and applying IPCC Tier 2 methods and associated guidelines and tools
  • A report on the climate change indicators, data collection and processing procedures, and recommendations on the organizations from which indicator data can be obtained for the agriculture sector
