Paraguay - Supporting the development of a resolution to reduce SLCPs from HDVEs

UNEP has been working with Paraguay since 2008 on moving to cleaner fuels and vehicles, working on air quality studies that contributed to the adoption of the law 522/12 on Air Quality in 2014. This law included recommendations for fuel and vehicle emissions standards, and UNEP subsequently supported the government in developing regulations for low sulphur fuels. Concurrent vehicle emission standards of Euro 5/IV or equivalent are still pending. Paraguay is now focusing on these standards as the next step to ensuring that all regulations are harmonized.

This project responds to a request for technical expert assistance from the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) of Paraguay to support the development of a resolution to control and regulate short-lived climate pollutants as part of Law 5211/12 on Air Quality, and Resolution 609 for the control of vehicle emissions.
