This report summarizes the experience of the SIMLESA program in Mozambique, which worked to improve smallholder maize–legume farming systems through conservation agriculture and sustainable intensification practices. The document outlines how these practices aimed to increase productivity, reduce production risks, improve soil health, and support more resilient livelihoods for farming households. It highlights overall trends observed during implementation, such as increased interest in maize–legume diversification, positive yield and labor-saving outcomes, and better engagement between farmers, extension services, and value-chain actors. The report also identifies common constraints, including limited access to improved seed, mechanization, and extension support, and offers recommendations for strengthening partnerships and scaling up sustainable farming innovations across the country.
