THE GLOBAL METHANE PLEDGE

Launched by the United States and the European Union in
2021, the Global Methane Pledge (GMP) is a voluntary
commitment to contribute to a collective eort to reduce global
methane emissions at least 30 percent from 2020 levels by
2030, which could eliminate over 0.2˚C warming by 2050.

THE CCAC's ROLE

As a core implementer of the GMP, the Climate and Clean Air
Coalition (CCAC) Secretariat is a ‘first port of call’ for GMP
participating countries. The CCAC supports the identification of
country needs and resources, and coordinates with technical and policy
experts to facilitate methane mitigation activities.
The Coalition also works with financial institutions, bilateral donors, and
philanthropies to leverage financing for mitigation action, and
integrates expertise into CCAC Hubs to build a community of practice.

COUNTRY SUPPORT

GMP participating countries can access CCAC-funded support to
develop national methane action plans, roadmaps, and sectoral
mitigation plans, and to build national capacity through training and
awareness raising.

The CCAC also develops Methane Country Projections, which
leverage the best publicly available data to provide a snapshot of
national methane mitigation potential, the cost of mitigation
solutions, and the benefits of action.
