The guide is divided into three main sections. The first addresses the integral management of solid waste and waste, its importance, and the applicable legal framework. The second sets out the four steps to follow to implement municipal composting initiatives. STEP 1 Know, invites municipalities to become familiar with composting, its phases and production systems, and the benefits it generates. STEP 2 Analyze guides municipalities to analyze three composting alternatives that could be implemented in their community: central composting, community composting, and home composting. STEP 3 Implement refers to the actions to be developed to implement the composting alternative and the communication actions that should accompany the process. STEP 4 Improve, encourages municipalities to evaluate the composting alternative implemented in order to identify opportunities for improvement in project management. Finally, the third section presents the experience of the Municipality of Guatemala in the implementation of a composting project. Support for the development of the Municipal Composting Guide was provided by CCAC within the framework of the work plan of the NDC Partnership's Climate Action Improvement Package (CAEP) activities in Guatemala to update its determined national contribution. The guide was developed by Fundación Centro de Gestión Tecnológica e Informática Industrial (CEGESTI), an organization specializing in issues of sustainable development and comprehensive solid waste management and partner of CCAC.
