To create greater and wider impact at a system-level, it is necessary to include a diverse group of people that represent
a wide range of perspectives and experiences; social, cultural, technical, governance etc. This will increase the likelihood of firsthand connection to issues discussed at the convening.

This can be achieved by ensuring meaningful representation of the agricultural system, alongside active participation
of all those present at the convening by creating a safe space for dialogue and exchange. As a result, the wisdom of the whole group is deepened and challenges are better understood, laying the foundations for something new to emerge, be that new ideas, solutions, actions, or trusted relationships. That also creates a greater sense of ownership, shared responsibility, and accountability. Both representation and participation are key enablers of better investment outcomes – for the convening and for overall systemic change.

How can you ensure you have a good and balanced representation in the room? Why does it matter? What can
you do to increase the likelihood that people will accept your invitation and be fully present at the convening?

This module aims to help you answer these questions. It speaks about the importance of meaningful representation to
achieve successful convening outcomes and a system-level impact and it provides guidance on how to engage with
potential attendees before and during the convening to increase attendance and participation.
